The sound is pretty good given how small it is, and can easily drown out snoring or mild noises from outside. Where this white-noise machine really shines is with the fact that it’s not only very portable, but it also works with batteries. They can have a lot of benefits: Some might use it as a study aid, since it can help soothe the mind and drown out distractions. They tend to do that either through mechanical means, such as with a spinning fan, or through software, which often adds a lot of other types of noises as well. White-noise machines are a bit of a catch-all term for any device that creates sound to drown out the noise coming from outside, otherwise known as sound pollution.
